Orchid Kuman helps Mozzies edge Kongos

PAPUA New Guinea Orchids flyer Joan Kuman helped the D8 Mosquitoes edge the 5-Mile Kongos 6-4 and claim the NCD Governor’s Christmas Cup women’s title at the Kone Tigers Oval on Friday .
The Mozzies were the first women’s team to win a title in the popular offseason competition in the nations capital.
They opened the scoring through Kuman, who crashed over under the uprights, with hooker Betty Kawak adding the extras for a 6-0 lead.
Joan went close to scoring a double but was denied through desperate defence by Orchids teammate Brenda Goro for the Kongos
The Mosquitoes took their 6-0 lead into the halftime break.
In the second stanza, the Kongos through Vero Waula got on the board to trail 6-4 but they could not add to that effort.
Kongos captain Mellie Jacob said her side had put in a determined effort but errors from loose carries and poor option taking had made it hard for her girls.
