OTML trains local staff

OK Tedi Mining Ltd (OTML) is committed to training Papua New Guineans in its training facilities.
OTML general manager people and capabilities Mark Stone said about 16 to 25 locals come through the programme annually.
“The training centre is a key part of our operation, at any one time,” he said.
“We have at least 140 people in formal training and those are our apprentices, in our local area traineeship and our graduate programmes. On top of that we have training which directly supports our operations, skills that is within our organisations, that we identified, and with the training centre we help to address those skill gaps.
“We do this as a key part to our commitment not only making our operations better and efficient, but also developing the youth around our area.”
Stone said currently, there were 1,747 direct employees at OTML.
“We also have a large number of business partners, so we have a big part of our workforce that is employees through contractors who support us through peak workloads and through particular projects,” he said.
