TARI mayor Andayali Yali and Hela education director Ronny Angu are among more than 200 police reservist who passed out in Tari yesterday.
Angu told The National they were ready to assist with the general election operations and general policing under the police reservist programme.
“This is the biggest reservist recruitment compared to other provinces and we will do our best we can to serve the community,” he said.
“Police Commissioner David Manning has endorsed the Hela police reservist programme to beef up police manpower to address policing challenges in the province and Hela is thankful to Prime Minister James Marape and Governor Philip Undialu.
“We are also thankful to Commissioner Manning for the endorsement and his vision to revive the reservist programme to address the lack of police manpower in the provinces,” he said.
Manning when signing the memorandum of understanding with Undialu earlier this year said reservists had been a great asset to the Royal PNG Constabulary, however, it was discontinued due to the lack of proper command and control.
