MORE than K22,000 worth of items were stolen from a mobile phone and accessories shop last weekend after eight suspects allegedly broke into it following a fight at a nearby night club.
National Capital District Metropolitan Superintendent Gedion Ikumu said two suspects had been arrested and charged for damaging property and stealing from the Fone Haus shop in downtown Port Moresby.
“We have one suspect who was charged for damaging properties because the closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage showed him breaking the glass window while the others was caught stealing,” he said.
Ikumu said police were still unsure how many phones, laptops or electronic items were stolen.
The shop was looted in the early hours of Sunday morning following a fight among patrons of a night club along that row of shops.
Ikumu said the officer from the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) were working on arresting six more suspects using the CCTV footage.
Meanwhile, Ikumu said the suspect charged with stealing was freed by a police officer from the Badili Police Station.
“The suspect charged with stealing was freed and the police officer who let him go will be investigated,” he said.
