‘Own your identity, register yourself’

NATIONAL Identification (NID) registrar-general Dickson Kiragi says identity registration is necessary for the election, development, social and legal protection.
“NID requires inherent and generic characteristics recognising an individual person, this including facial and finger print,” he said.
“In order to own your identify, you can record your identity, recognise your identity, respect your identify and preserve your identity.”
He presented an insight into NID and voter registration and promoted the registration of all citizens to make sure all women were included.
Kiragi said in 2013, Cabinet directed the issuance of the National ID Card and enactment of Civil Registration Amendment Act 2014 integrating the National ID Card.
The decision made sure that the Civil Registry was commissioned to launch an identity registration system and issuance of the ID card system.
