DIVINE Word University president Prof Fr Philip Gibbs says having a pageant is not about beauty quest but an occasion for students to show their talent.
Fr Philip said this on Saturday during the Mr and Miss Divine Word University pageantry at the Madang Campus.
He said: “It is about talent.
“It is about what young people can present. We recognise the talents they (students) have.
“It was a wonderful opportunity for people to use their initiative, creativity and the gifts that they have, which was demonstrated.”
The 2021 Mr Divine Word University title went to Mr faculty of arts and social science Daniel Undaba and the 2021 Miss Divine Word University title was awarded to Miss faculty of business and informatics Naomic Alickson.
The pageant was organised by the university students’ representative council to pick contestants to represent the university at the Miss and Mr Madang contest.
The Mr and Miss Madang pageant is an annual fundraiser for community projects spearheaded by the Rotary Club of Madang and led by a long-time community organiser Maureen Hill.
The contestants were students from three of the four faculties of the university.
The faculties of the university include arts and social sciences, business and informatics and the faculty of medicine and health sciences.
