Bole: Kandep, Sumkar can approve K2.5mil contracts

THE Kandep and Sumkar districts can approve contracts up to K2.5 million for service delivery, National Procurement Committee (NPC) chief executive Simon Bole says.
Bole said Kandep in Enga and Sumkar in Madang were among 78 districts and 19 provinces that had established their committees to award contracts to companies for service delivery.
He said this during the swearing-in of committees in the presence of Magistrate Gerry Unjo, Kandep MP Don Polye and Sumkar MP Chris Nangoi in Port Moresby yesterday.
“We are delegating the board powers to enable you to approve contracts worth up to K2.5 million to improve goods and service delivery in your districts,” Bole said.
Polye said the swearing-in of his district committee would enable him to deliver services in the district before next year’s general election.
“This means we can award contracts or projects valued at K2.5 million from the district services improvement programme (DSIP) funds to build roads and bridges and other essential services in the district,” he said.
“Let us uphold compliance to good governance, rule of law and forgiving one and other with love and compassion.
“With more than four months left to deliver services to the people, the establishment of the committee would ensure governance issues are addressed with work delivered to high standards and value for money.”
Meanwhile, since his reinstatement by the Natioanal Court as the elected MP for Kandep, Polye has been in the office for two months and 18 days.
He said he was happy to be back to continue his unfinished work.
Poly thanked the NPC for transferring the power to the districts.
