THE elder brother of the two Widnes Vikings-bound Albert brothers, Dr Newton Albert, says his younger siblings have reached another juncture in their rugby league careers.
The brothers — Wellington and Stanton — left yesterday for their new club in the English Super League.
Wellington was signed on by the Widnes Vikings together with the late Kato Ottio but following Ottio’s untimely passing, the Vikings management signed in Stanton in place of Ottio.
Dr Newton Albert said his family was happy to be part of the excitement that the two younger Alberts brought into the rugby league nation by making it to the Super League club in England.
“They were just kids yesterday but now they are men. They have made a commitment and now they have come this far and we the family members are very grateful for their great achievement,” Dr Newton said.
Dr Newton said he encouraged them when they were downhearted after returning from Penrith Panthers telling them that probably their country needed them because the Hunters made it to three consecutive finals but never tasted a grand final.
He told them that maybe the missing factor was them who could support the Hunters with weight and height.
And indeed, the Alberts added power to the Hunters’ pack and had a hand in their maiden Intrust Super Cup premiership last year.
“The Hunters Intrust Cup victory was history in the making which the two brothers were part of,” he said.
