THE Headquarters Military Wives Association’s preparations for their games has been given a boost with donations from Paladin Solutions Limited.
The annual Military Wives Games, which begin next month, will see wives of military personnel in National Capital District competing in basketball and volleyball.
Paladin gave tents, T-shirts and 25 cartons of water bottles to teams from Murray Barracks.
Representative Bert Stewart said they wanted to recognise small groups in communities.
“It is a minor sponsorship just to let women know that they are supported,” Stewart said.
“Companies seem to focus on bigger activities and little is known or given to mothers.
“A lot of these women are mothers who stay at home and support their husbands who are out in the field. It’s about recognising them.”
Association president Rubina Mangawa said the aim was to get spouses together to address their problems and have fun.
“It’s all about spouses coming together through sports and sharing issues like violence against women and abuses,” Mangawa said.
“They don’t have to keep their problems to themselves all the time, it’s good to come out and have fun and mingle with each other.”
Mangawa said business houses were yet to support them despite writing a number of letters to firms.
She appealed to business houses to support them as it was a good initiative for women.
