GREEN Field Resources managing director Timothy Irinaya Pape came to the aid of the Pangia rugby league in the Southern Highlands, with a K1,000 sponsorship to participate in the Ipatas Cup competition in Wabag last weekend.
It is the second time for Irinaya to support the rural league.
Last year, he donated K1,500 to help the league participate in the Highlands Zone trials and the Ipatas Cup.
As a Southern Highlander, Irinaya said he was involved in sports to ensure development of youth and addressing social issues involving the use of drugs and alcohol abuse.
He added that helping the youth would contribute to the development of the province after years of bad publicity on rising social and tribal problems.
Irinaya said he was also eager for the youth to be actively involved so that they could continue to develop their raw talents and pursue a professional career in their respective sports.
Pangia rugby league president Jack Kipoi said last Friday that the league was pleased to participate in the competition but it was difficult to secure funding.
However, he said there were a few Southern Highlanders who were generous enough to come to their aid.
On behalf of the supporters, Irinaya thanked the individuals for supporting them.
He also acknowledged the support of Timothy Terry, Jerry Agus, and Henry Yakura and urged them to make them proud by performing well.
Meanwhile, Irinaya has also assisted other sports in the province like the Imbongu league with K1,000 and a commitment of K5,000, Pangia soccer K3,500 and the Kagua Basketball Association.
He said that empowering the youth would contribute to the development of the province.
