KOLTA Panthers have maintained their top spot in the Morata off-season rugby league competition after stopping a determined Kongo Rats 14-4 at the Kone Tigers oval yesterday.
The Panthers led 8-0 after a torrid first half in the blazing Port Moresby heat.
They added another converted try in the second half and managed to limit the Rats to a sole unconverted try.
In the other matches, Nikints beat Tigers 6-2, Talapia downed Gateway Sharks 8-4 and Waigani Cowboys thrashed Hawks 22-0. Megusa forfeited Pitpit and Eastern Eagles also won on forfeit over Border Storms.
Morata league president Daniel Busu said they had imposed tough measures against teams who failed to pay their affiliation fees of K500.
He said the deadline lapsed last Friday and, as a result, two teams lost on forfeit to their opponents yesterday.
“We will not entertain or tolerate clubs with attitude problems and they may be axed from the competition,” Busu said.
