SEVENTEEN-year-old Shannah Dringo gets her chance to stake a claim for an Under-21 spot this weekend when Monier Paramana take on the Digicel Sparrows.

The Port Moresby Netball competition should see a lift in intensity as U21 squad members hope to impress selectors who are expected to name their 12-member team this weekend.

Dringo, who hails from the Aroma Coast in Central province, has been a major boost to the Paramana premier grade side as a midcourter.

The youngster has shown her versatility and confidence by being able to fill several positions – either  wing attack, wing defence or centre.

A member of the PNG Netball Federation’s U21 national train-on squad to the World Youth Netball Championships in Glasgow, Scotland, later this month, Dringo will now need to produce the kind of mature display that will impress U21 coach Pole Kassman and the selectors.

She will join Gasi Moka in midcourt while shooters Renagi Dringo and possibly Rakara Raula put the pressure on Sparrows’ defensive  line in Kilala Owen and Margaret Eka.

Sparrows could be a little complacent heading into this match after last week’s 83-20 thrashing of Raukele. The girls in turquoise are an effective unit with goal shooters Jacklyn Lahari and 14-year-old Jephat Tulapi returning high strike rates and will give Dringo and Paramana all they can handle.

In the other matches, City Pharmacy Rebels take on Veupunama, Global Construction Aroma Coas face Esco Telstars and Mermaids clash with Raukele.
