PARENTS of children attending Yangoru Secondary School in East Sepik want the education department to transfer principal Samuel Pongiura because of the school’s poor academic performance.

It is one of the resolutions they agreed on during a recent meeting.

Speaking on their behalf, West Yangoru local level government president Manuel Ganai said the parents had been asking the provincial education board to change the principal.

“The parents are frustrated because the provincial education board failed to adhere to their petition to have Pongiura transferred elsewhere because of the poor academic performance at Yangoru Secondary over the years,” Ganai said.

He said parents wanted the school closed until the provincial education board appointed a new principal.

If not, the parents want the provincial education adviser who is the chairman of board sacked.

If that fails, they want acting Education Minister James Marape to visit Yangoru and discuss the issue with the parents.

Ganai said when he took the list of resolutions to the school this week, his vehicle was stoned by unknown people.
