Parkop’s absence unacceptable

Letters, Normal

I AM unhappy NCD Governor Powes Parkop was not available to receive the petition from the people of Port Moresby.
Instead, MPs from the Opposition were there to receive the petitions.
They were Sir Mekere Morauta, Bart Philemon, Sam Basil, Kone Iguan and Vincent Michaels.
Four of the five MPs are from Morobe.
Where were the rest of the NCD MPs, including Parkop?
The governor should have been the first to receive the petition from his people.
I have been supporting the governor from day one and I am sure many other supporters in NCD are beginning to read the wrong signals here.
Our governor stood for transparency and accountability and won our hearts.
I have always been proud of my governor, who, before entering politics, was a proactive leader in the community against corruption.
He was our beacon for justice and equality and his absence in Parliament on Tuesday was unacceptable.
His absence and his move to the middle bench have forced me to rethink my choice come 2012.
