Parkop happy with court’s ruling over land

NATIONAL Capital District Governor Powes Parkop has welcomed the decision by the Waigani Supreme Court pertaining to and reaffirming the legitimacy of the lawful title to portion 1221 in 14-Mile outside Port Moresby.
“I welcome this decision as it reaffirms the legitimacy and lawful title to portion 1221,” he said.
“More importantly, the court observed that we have not committed any breaches of human rights.
“In fact, the court noted when refusing the application, that we have done all we can to respect the rights and freedom of settlers and those claiming to be customary landowners.”
Parkop said the NCD Commission gave the settlers two years’ notice. “We have done awareness and reached out to them to recognise our title and worked on a future together.
“We have given them further notices to relocate or discuss with us about the future,” the governor said.
“They have bluntly and knowingly refused to discuss the future with us.”

  • PP please do an inventory of all state land that is occupied by settlements and provide awareness of some sort to ensure they start vacating. Am sure as our governor you are mandated to assist our people. Assist also the indigenous motu koita people to develop their land in order stop land grabbing or illegal settlement. Many of this settlers are unemployed, hence this group of settlers should be first to return back to their provinces
