Parkop promises support for teachers in quality education

NATIONAL Capital District (NCD) Governor Powes Parkop has assured teachers in NCD schools that his administration will support them with universal and quality education for all children.
Parkop said teaching and learning needed to be supported adequately to achieve better outcomes.
“Teachers should be supported because they balance the equation of learning,” he said.
He said he was aware of the situation that schools in the city were overcrowded and teachers over-worked with teacher-student ratios around one teacher to 60 students.
He assured teachers and schools at the launch of the transfer of NCD Education Services from the Education Department to the National Capital District Commission on Tuesday that they would work on improving the situation.
He said it was also a concern that teachers had housing issues and this affected their careers and commitment to teach.
“Some teachers are renting or living in the settlements and they find it hard to get to work,” he said.
“Most of them have no decent accommodation but we expect them to perform to high standard in the classrooms.”
He said with NCDC taking over the administrative functions of schools in the city, they would address these ongoing and urgent issues.
