THE National Capital District Commission is ready to work with police to install closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras around Port Moresby to monitor criminal activities.
Governor Powes Parkop welcomed the call by Metropolitan Superintendent Perou N’dranou to use CCTV cameras around the city.
N’dranou said he had been discussing the matter with senior officials at City Hall.
Parkop said they had offered to work with police to install CCTV cameras around the city six years ago but were turned down.
“We then invited the G4S security services to work with us. Then Apec came and CCTV cameras were installed (but only) in certain areas of the city. We are happy that the police now wants to work with us in using CCTV cameras to monitor criminal activities,” he said.
