Senior police officers replaced as they reach retirement age

POLICE have retired 10 officers this year for either reaching retirement age or on medical grounds, Police Commissioner Gari Baki says.
“I sent directives to their respective divisional commanders to have these officers retrenched and some of them are provincial commanders,” he said. “These PPCs are expected to hand over their command to the new PPCs.”
Baki confirmed that East Sepik commander Superintendent Robert Gesa had been retired after reaching 60 and Superintendent Albert Beli was the new commander. “Gesa is among these retiring officers and Beli has been appointed to replace him. This is part and parcel of the movement of transfers that have been put in place. Also, Milne Bay commander Superintendent Joseph Morehave is among the 10 retired.”
Meanwhile, a source said locks to the office at the East Sepik command in Wewak had been changed, locking out both Gesa and Beli.
The source said both were not seen near the office.
“We don’t know who we will be reporting to. The public is also confused as the police officers don’t know who to report to. The morale is low and petty crimes like bag-snatching, selling and consumption of drug and homebrew in Wewak town is on the rise,” the source said.
