CLERK to Parliament Kala Aufa says being appointed during tough times is challenging.
He was sworn in at Government House yesterday for a six-year term.
Aufa said during the Covid-19 period, Parliament had to change its system of doing business.
“I’m happy to be sworn in so I can get down to the real crux of my job,” he said.
Aufa from Central was appointed in August. His family witnessed the ceremony at Government House.
He said the appointment of his deputy was already underway.
His first task is to look at acting positions.
“I have been acting clerk for four years, as well as staff down the line, but now that will change,” he said.
“We are implementing the current structure but if there is a need for a restructure we will consider it.”
Aufa who is the sixth clerk to be appointed had worked in Parliament since 1996.
He started as a trainee parliamentary officer and moved up the ranks.
