A SMALL group of people graduated last Friday with certificates in rural manufacturing technology at the Lae Anglican church in Morobe.

Course facilitator Gibing Oboko said the 19 participants could return to their communities and produce basic items such as soap, cooking oil and stockfeed from local materials.

The participants agreed that the one-week course was an eye-opener for them and they were excited about returning to their respective communities to start implementing their new-found knowledge and skills.

The workshop was organised by the Anglican church. Participants were recruited from Anglican parishes in the province.

Oboko is a long-time entrepreneur of home-made washing soap, cooking oil, flour, body lotion and stockfeed for domesticated pigs, chicken and fish.

Oboko is a success story of the Labour Department-sponsored Independence Fellowship Scheme.
