A FILM competition was launched in Goroka as a key initiative in strengthening the creation of local media content and expanding the industry in PNG.

The University of Goroka, in collaboration with Digicel Play (TV WAN) launched its second film competition on Sept 8 for secondary and tertiary students.

UOG Social and Creative Media director Dr Verena Thomas said by training young, talented media producers who were still in school,  allowed them to pass on their skills to their schoolmates and create a better understanding of using media among their peers.

“Those selected through the competition are in a great position to continue a career in media production,” Thomas said.

TVWAN head of marketing Jack Bourke said Digicel Play was thrilled with last year’s competition results and are investing K75,000 in the campaign again.

The six students who submitted the best storyboards would each receive a new Smartphone, a two-week intensive Filmmaking Workshop at UOG, return airfares to the venue and accommodation at UOG as their winning prize.

The workshop will be from Jan 10-24, 2016.
