Partnership develops educational materials

THE Papua New Guinea-Australia Partnership has assisted the National Agriculture and Quarantine Inspection Authority (Naqia) in developing its educational materials to raise awareness on how to contain the spread of the fall armyworm (FAW), which has been detected in Western.
Fall armyworm is a moth that can destroy species of food crops such as corn, sugarcane, sweet potato, tomato, cabbage, cucumber, rice and sorghum.
The PNG-Australia Partnership, through the Pacific Horticultural and Agricultural Market Access Plus (PHAMA+) programme is working with Naqia to develop containment and eradication plans to try to control the spread of the disease.
Australian High Commission acting minister counsellor Derek Brown said: “Our focus on working with local authorities and communities to combat this pest is part of our work to ensure effective food supply systems to serve the most vulnerable.”
