PNG Power and the Talasea district development authority yesterday signed an electrification partnership agreement which will enable power supply to more than 30,000 people by 2025.
The agreement was signed between Talasea MP Francis Maneke and PNG Power acting managing Director Carolyn Blacklock and witnessed by West New Britain Governor Sasindran Muthuvel and PNG Power board chairman Peter Nupiri.
Blacklock said the core principal business of the partnership was to undertake an extended provision of electricity services to the people of Talasea district in order to drive and enhance social and economic development.
Blacklock said one of the key deliverables would be setting up a steering committee and working group comprising representatives of district development authority and PNG Power whose roles were to oversee drive and implement the partnership programme.
Blacklock added that Talasea was financially stable and progressive with Oil Palm flourishing and was where people from around the country lived and worked peacefully.
“People from Talasea live in harmony and the local me mber is a strong and capable leader who wants nothing more than progress for his people,” Blacklock said.
Maneke said the district considers PNG Power as an important partner in that major project to deliver services.
“There is a big plan for the country now that the government has signed this electricity partnership programme and we want to be ahead with the green energy and the geo-thermal that’s source of power.
“It’s an important at this point of time to work within our budget but align with a partner such as PNG power.
“We want to see the district develop green energy from now on as we continue to partner with major stakeholders,” Maneke said.
