THE People’s Party has become one of the first political parties in the country to review its policies and constitution to be more relevant with current trends.
PP has strived to comply with all the requirements under the organic law on the integrity of political parties and candidates.
A party workshop, which started yesterday, attracted many stakeholders including lawyers, academics, professionals and party supporters and officers from the Registry of Political Parties and Candidates, to review party policies and constitution.
Deputy Prime Minister Davis Steven said he was proud to see the party executives working hard to get the party compatible with current practices and the changing political landscape.
He said the party, which was established in 2006, was aiming to be a force in Parliament, and reviewing their policies and stances was crucial to offering the people the best leadership and governance.
Steven said the party had a vision to take PNG to a progressive and prosperous path and setting down its ideals and mission was important as were its party processes and guidelines.
Party leader and Jiwaka Governor William Tongamp said the review was necessary to maintain the party as an organisation for democracy and good governance heading into the next election and beyond.
People’s Party has among its numbers founder and Enga Governor Sir Peter Ipatas as well as David Steven.
Registrar of Political Parties and Candidates Dr Alphonse Gelu commended the party for its initiative. He said parties would grow into strong organisations with committed membership and a solid core of polices and guidelines.
