Paying for election work

Letters

The National last month reported that a date has been fixed and a budget of K100 million allocated for the 2018 local level government elections, yet in some parts of the country people are still waiting for payment for last year’s national election work.
Out of 101 temporary election workers, or polling officials who conducted the national election in six council wards at Kamano One LLG in the Kainantu district, Eastern Highlands, seven were paid in cash (K3460) by the assistant returning officer.
Ninety-four are still waiting for payment (K44,413.60).
We had been checking our bank accounts during polling, counting, and declaration and to date nothing has been deposited.
The Eastern Highlands Provincial election office has not told us what is going on and what is happening to our payment.
They are lost. We are all lost.
I am now calling on the PNG Electoral Commission office in Port Moresby to at least follow up and do something.
