People told to respect road constructions

EAST New Britain (ENB) adviser for technical services Benny Wogan has reminded people in the province to respect any road construction taking place in their area.
Speaking during a recent gathering, Wogan said locals, especially youths, needed to respect contractors working in their communities to bring government services.
Wogan said gaining and organising infrastructure projects was a long process and they did not need people hindering work because of minor issues.
“It costs a lot of money for the contractor and for the government to roll out such services and there are penalties for this such as the timeframe for work and if project is not completed on time there are additional costs incurred,” Wogan said.
He was addressing youths from Bitakapuk No.2 in the Toma-Vunadidir local level government (LLG) of Gazelle during a reconciliation programme between the ward and the contractor.
He said the youths had started a fight with construction workers and this had caused a stop in work, delaying the project.
“Now we have to find new money to compensate the contractor before they come back to work, we have burdened our community,” Wogan said.
