City council hoping to make K20mil from K14mil raised

THE Lae City Council (LCC) will be looking at generating around K20 million from the K14 million raised this year, Lae City Authority (LCA) chairman and MP John Rosso says.
He said LCC had huge problems when he first took office, especially financial issues faced by the city council.
“They only had K5mil and we’ve managed to help to bring that up to K14mil last year,” Rosso said.
“Next year we will be looking at raising about K20mil and this is a big achievement.
“This would not have been possible without everyone’s support and cooperation.”
Rosso, also Minister for Lands and Physical Planning, said when LCA took the lead, they brought a lot of changes with the funds they were raising. “I now hope to see level three health centres in every ward in Lae, sealed roads, street lights and other vital government services and we are going to achieve that.
“We already have three level three hospitals with doctors and dentists, new police stations, sealed roads including the current road works at East Taraka. For the miles area, we will be giving out land titles and contractors will start working now on the Bumbu Road, from Bumbu to Malahang.
“All these are and will be happening because of good visionary leadership.
“This board (LCA) has given 18 police cars to Lae police in three years and three police stations through the public-private partnership (PPP). In the next five years, I see Lae with minimum law and order issues.”
Rosso said with all these, he is certain that Lae is heading the right way.
Rosso added that settlements around the city that do not live by the rule of law, will not be tolerated and the authorities will ensure Lae is ruled by law.
