People urged to embrace Hope Cup

SOUTHERN Highlanders have been urged to embrace and take ownership of the Hope Cup initiative.
National Capital District Governor Powes Parkop said the initiative was a powerful medium, using the power of sports to achieve the outcomes of the initiative.
The crowd at Mendi’s Momei Oval on Saturday made a commitment to remember those who had lost their lives as a result of violence, respect each other and live in peace.
The Hope Cup initiative is the result of a partnership between Parkop and Southern Highlands Governor William Powi.
The governors and Kairuku-Hiri MP Peter Isoaimo led hundreds of people in a walk for hope and peace on Saturday morning as part of the initiative.
The annual fixture is aimed at helping restore normalcy and peace in the province. Parkop said the province’s Kutubu gas field had been supporting the national economy over the years.
He said peace and unity were crucial to the prosperity of the province and Papua New Guinea.
Parkop said they would work together to develop the initiative into a peace festival.
Powi commended Parkop for his leadership in assisting with the province’s restoration efforts.
