Golf competition tees off

THE Royal Port Moresby Golf Club teed off its Kumul Telikom Holdings (KTH) pennants competition yesterday with 10 teams competing in the opening round.
The teams Star Land Dragons, Ela Motors, AON, Kumul Telikom, More than Oil, DHL, SCAL (Mirupasi), East West Transport, BSP and KCH Tigers played while QPR (Tasion Group) were the game keepers.
East West Transport’s Ben Wong was named as the best player of the round.
After the opening round, the top-four teams are Starland Dragons with 7.5 points, Ela Motors (7), AEON (6.5) and Kumul Telikom (6).
The next round is scheduled for March 14 with DHL to be on a bye.
The 10-round competition will run till November with each team comprising six men and one woman.
QPR vice-captain Roz Taufa, who was part of the game-keeping team, said the golf club was privileged to have KTH’s support.
“They’ve been sponsoring for a number of years,” Taufa said.
“So when a sponsor renews their sponsorship, it’s an honour for the club.
“We’re very grateful to every corporate-sponsored teams, it builds community relationships and good sportsmanship among us.
“We’re also promoting our juniors as they move through to develop themselves as amateur players.”
The first round of the season saw the teams turning up in numbers for the tee-off yesterday morning.
Participants also enjoyed KTH’s sponsorship of free Wi-Fi internet.
