People urged to work with police

PEOPLE should work with police in reducing crime, says a community leader in Madang.
Jack Lama, from the Jack’s Corner community at Yabob, handed over food rations for the detainees at the Jomba Police Station on Friday.
“When we build a good relationship with the police, we will (not) commit crime,” he said.
“When one does that, others will follow and then the whole community will be peaceful and crime-free.”
Lama said this during a donation of five bales of rice, greens, vegetables and soft drinks from the people to the detainees.
Acting Madang Police Station commander Insp Willie Mio was joined by Jomba Police Station cell officers to receive the food.
Insp Mio thanked the people saying the support was timely as they were running out of food to feed the detainees.
“It was very kind of them to assist police and I look forward to working with other communities in Madang town,” he said.
