People from Wain-Erap learn about food to have better health

The people of Wain-Erap local government area in the Nawaeb district, Morobe, now understand food security and processing techniques better and the knowledge will help increase their daily nutritional intake.
A week-long course conducted by the Lutheran Development Services (LDS) in partnership with the Morobe Provincial Commerce and Tourism Division has seen over 100 people from eight villages in the Boana area receive certificates on household economy management aspects and food processing in curry powder, dried chili and coffee parchment grinding.
Facilitator Fujiyno Tatsuya said the training aimed to improve lifestyle through the use of simple modern techniques in everyday life.
Tatsuya also facilitated training on how to manage crops so as to increase resilience from changes in weather patterns to ensure the food supply is secured.
Yukup Mitia, of Sarawaget Air Wreck Trek, said the workshop also trained the local people on basic tourism.
The workshop was conducted at Bandong village and the participants came from Popof, Wambangan, Gagingan, Kawaland, Bosagen, Sikiland as well as government service providers from the LLG area.
The workshop is the first community engagement project initiated by the Sarawaget Air Wreck Trek, a local tourism operator in the Wain/Erap LLG which provides tours to World War Two aircraft wreckage and local lifestyle.
