NHC warns of ‘fake’ titles

The National Housing Corporation (NHC) in Lae is cautioning residents who are intending to buy NHC properties in and around Lae to verify the land tittles before buying.
Morobe NHC acting manager Matthew Limu said most tittles that individuals have over NHC land were obtained on the pretext they were vacant land portions.
Limu said NHC has leasing grants to those properties and NHC is only managing the properties which are owned by the state.
“Properties like rental units at Salamanda, Top Town, 7th Street, China Town, Eriku and around the city are rental properties that are managed by the NHC but some people have managed to obtain titles to single units and are now erecting fences to these units. This must stop,” Limu said. He said those who are developing NHC properties after they have obtained their ‘fake’ titles and direct grants must stop.
Limu said NHC has granted the leases and most of the properties have NHC structures on them.
He said those who are holding onto to ‘fake’ tittles must give them back to the NHC. “We are conducting our research and verifying against the National Gazette so those who have obtained leases through direct grants will be evicted and referred to the police fraud squad because they have obtained their tittles fraudulently.”
