People with Covid-19 symptoms urged to get tested

PEOPLE with symptoms of the Covid-19 are encouraged to go for testing at the nearest health facility, says an official.
National Capital District Health Authority acting director for public health Dr Mark Raphael said it was a concern that while the Covid-19 threat was high, testing levels in Port Moresby had decreased.
He said there were many reasons for the decrease in the level of testing.
“There is a drop in suspected cases from the clinics,” he said.
“There (have been) two waves of the Covid-19 so far and when the peak was reached, it slowly drops.
“During the two waves, we had a lot of suspected cases (and cases).
“We don’t know when the third wave is going to come.
“And since the delta variant is around, it is only fitting that we start vaccination in communities and upscale the level of testing.”
Raphael said so far 45,723 tests had been conducted in the NCD but more needed to be done.
He urged the people to heed the Covid-19 control measures such as wearing masks.
He urged people to make the effort to be vaccinated to protect not only themselves but also their family members and others.
