Performance standards lacking

Letters

THE public sector is a major part of Papua New Guinea’s economy and is the heart of PNG’s administration.
The performance in delivering services have been questioned by MPs and community leaders.
I am writing in support of The National’s editorial ‘Government services should reach people’ on Aug 25, that over 80 per cent of today’s leaders both of political and bureaucracy level think of themselves rather than the welfare of their people.
It is obvious that services such as health, education, roads, and law and order are not reaching our rural areas.
There is something wrong in the system.
There is a tendency of vacancy in the performance standards or agreed mechanism in place to measuring public service personnel performance.
At present there are no performance standards or even agreed mechanisms for measuring performance.
It is almost impossible to assess the productivity of our workforce.
Work with good ethics and honesty to earn your pay.
