Perpetrators must pay for damage, Mann says

ACTING Chancellor of the University of Papua New Guinea Dr Nicholas Mann says some people must pay the price of causing destruction to university properties worth millions of kina and the temporary shutdown of the 2016 academic year.
He issued the clarification following concerns by student leaders that the administration had made an unfair decision to permanently exclude them from campus.
“We have students being shot and injured by police, cars being burned, buildings were burned and properties worth millions were destroyed,” Mann said.
“All these are unlawful and it’s commonsense. Somebody who incited these things will have to face the consequence.
“That is commonsense and it’s something very important for everyone to understand.
“All students were encouraged to come back to class but those students who took the law into their own hands will have to pay the price.
“There are policies and legislation governing UPNG and if a student is in breach, they will have to face the consequences and normal disciplinary process will have to take its due course.
“If you are a leader, you are responsible for your people and will surely be held accountable of what your people have done.”
