I SUPPORT the letter “Grads unable to find jobs” (The National, Oct 13).
Unemployment is a pressing issue and requires immediate attention by our leaders.
However, I would like to impress upon my fellow graduates that jobs are plentiful, what with the boom in oil and gas, mining, building, business, agriculture and others.
Here is some advice:
l.Send expressions of interest for employment or training to as many companies, business houses, and government department. Don’t wait for advertisements;
l.Make follow-ups. If you are unsuccessful, don’t give up. Keep trying;
l.Don’t be put off by your marks/GPAs and inexperience. Your character, attitude, how you present yourself, and your ability to lead others is what prospective employers hold in high regard; and
l.If offered a job, which is not what you were trained for, accept it. At least you will be earning an income, and you will gain valuable experience in a field/profession which may well be a plus when you eventually find a job in your field. If you don’t find your job satisfying, keep searching.
It is up to each individual to be pro-active, determined and hungry for success.
Don’t sit back and expect jobs to come.
You have to sweat and brave the sun and rain to find employment.
Persistence always pays off.
