FIFTEEN joint-security personnel have been deployed to patrol the highway from the Usino junction to Madang to beef up public security for the Christmas and New Year holidays, Madang police commander Acting Supt Mazuc Rubiang says.
“This is to provide more security to everyone travelling along the highway,” he said.
Rubiang told The National that four Correctional Services (CS) personnel and 11 policemen would be conducting regular joint-patrol operations as a crime-prevention effort to ensure public safety.
He said the CS personnel were from Beon while five policemen were Walium station and six from Madang.
“Two vehicles have been made available for the patrols by Usino Bundi MP Jimmy Uguro,” he said.
“I want to assure the people of Madang and other provinces who are scheduled to travel along the highway to Madang that police and the CS personnel will be patrolling the highway.”
“The public is encouraged to help us keep an eye and be on the lookout for suspicious people.”
Rubiang said the suspects involved in the killing of a bus crew and a passenger last week were still on the run.
“We are still investigating. The public must assist and surrender the suspects to us because they will be the ones who cause problems.”
