PETE’S PUNCHLINE

Sports

  • Yeah, it’s official. Joseph Manu is intimidated by Justin Olam. It’s OK Joey, everyone has their bogeyman.
  • How ‘bout that. Cameron Munster doesn’t play for the Storm and Olam scores a couple of tries. Is it a coincidence or is there something there? If Olam scores a try or two against the Eels on Thursday then I’m going to start leaning towards the latter.
  • I’m sure Josh Addo-Carr is giving Justin hair style tips. How do I know? They both got the same mop-top.
  • I’m just wondering what the Maroons line-up is going to look like. Not too many of them are in form. This could a whitewash.
  • What did Dimirit Mileng at PNGFA mean when he said they were still waiting for a response from Lae City on the “release” of Raymond Gunemba and Nigel Dabinyaba by franchise owner via an email sent to the pair? Shouldn’t PNGFA or the NSL board be asking Hekari to put in their official request to have the two players join them. The request gets sent to City and City accepts and releases them. So the question that needs to be asked is: Did Hekari write to City to let them know Ray and Nigel wanted to transfer to them or is Hekari just relying on this email by Ian Chow?
  • Ever get the feeling that the Warriors always get the short end of the stick when it comes to 50-50 decisions? Peta Hiku’s catch and grounding of one foot in the ingoal was alright. It was simultaneous. Hiku/Warriors should’ve been given the benefit of the doubt.
  • City beat Hekari 1-0. Bob Morris’s men proved they didn’t need the players who walked out. Morris’s response to a question before he coached City a week ago was: “We’ve got enough weapons to be competitive.” I guess he wasn’t paying lip service
  • Zane Nonggorr is pretty mobile for a big man. And his scrummaging is decent. He’s 19 or 20 and already looks like he’s got coach Brad Thorn’s confidence. Makes me want to watch Aussie Super Rugby games now.
  • Those Dragons. Couldn’t win for me last week but they pulled out victory for departing coach Paul “Mary” McGregor on Friday night. What has Paul got that I don’t?
  • A friend asked how Paul McGregor got his nickname “Mary” and I did a Google search and came up with several possibilities: Mary McGregor was an obscure American singer from the 1970s; Mary McGregor was a brand of margarine back in the day; alliteration, like ‘Pete’s Punchline’.
  • Barcelona got walloped 2-8 by Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarterfinals. Messi looked deflated as nothing went right for him on the night. – PGTP ([email protected])

  • In previous Punchline I said that two Camerons are racist toward Olam and have not connected well with him in many of their games. Now that both have not played Olam displays his potential.

  • Right now in the NRL Justin Olam is the form player in his position and I am sure he will be very demanding when his Melbourne contract is finishes.

  • The results are out, Justin Olam is named in the NRL team of the week round 13 at one of the center position. Voted by rugby fans as the second best center in round 13 of the NRL season. Good performance
