Twenty-four of the 70 grade 8 students at Gordon International in Port Moresby have just returned from a week’s excursion to the Philippines
“This is an annual school programme in which we give our grade 8 students the opportunity to learn about other countries,” Robin Sigamata, one of the three teachers who accompanied the students, said.
“Usually we go to Australia. This year’s grade eight students’ excursion, we went to Manila, Philippines, from the 19th to the 24th of November” Sigamata said.
“Our first visit was to the Papua New Guinea embassy.
“Students were told of the work of the embassy in Philippines does.”
He said that on the following days, the students were taken to Manila Ocean Park, Mind Museum, Upside Down Museum, Puzzle Mansion Museum, Paradizoo and Enchanted Kingdom.
“It was a great learning experience to the students and us the teachers accompanying them,” he said.
“Although there were challenges, students were able to overcome them and had so much fun learning.”
Student Robertha Bais said the trip gave them the opportunity to understand some of the science theories in class such as the solar system, marine life and technology.
“It was a fun and exciting stay; we learnt a lot of things and I think Manila Ocean Park was the best part of the visit I enjoyed the most” Bais said.
“I find it interesting seeing life underwater, it’s a new experience to me and I think it’s amazing.”
Sigamata and Bais thanked the school for the opportunity given to the students and teachers to have such great learning experiences.
