PHOENIX remain undefeated in the National Capital District Volleyball Association competition after their 3-2 win over Vailima at the Taurama Aquatic and Indoor Centre on Saturday.
The win placed Phoenix in the third spot of the A-grade ladder ahead of Snipers, Telikom and Vailima.
Phoenix head coach Linda Simoi said she was unimpressed with her side’s performance despite the win.
“The overall performance was poor,” she said.
“Our serves were off. Defence and cover was very poor.
“I think they need a boost in their game. Two weekends ago, they didn’t play like this.”
Phoenix were troubled by Vailima in the second and third sets when setter Oliver Vele ran out of options in distributing possession, finding spikers hanging on the net.
The last set was crucial and Simoi found the right man for the top job, Denicris Mark, who helped Phoenix to 15-13 scoreline with his hard-hitting attack.
Simoi praised Mark for an outstanding individual effort in ensuring Phoenix remained unbeaten.
“The rest of the team weren’t on top of their game, especially our setter. But Mark stood out among them and played really well with his spikes,” she said.
