Pickpocketing issue raised

Letters

PICKPOCKETING is an ongoing issue which is increasing in the city as no one is really interested in solving it.
It is now an ongoing, unnoticeable issue in the main centres of Port Moresby, especially Gordon Market, Manu Auto Port Market, Koki Market and now Erima Overhead Bridge Market.
These highlighted locations are the most dangerous locations in the city at present.
Mothers, females, older fathers and little children are the most-targeted victims.
Who are the ones involved in this illicit activity?
The suspects are street vendors along respective bus stops.
Many people’s right to buy in those various locations are being terminated, their freedom of movement is restricted, intention of starting up small businesses are being flooded away.
Who is accountable for this ongoing issue? National government or National Capital District Commission?
We can say both, because they are the responsible authorities who can deal with such issues.
This problem can only be solved at community level by taking ownership. Let’s help ourselves and ask the government for solution.
