Piped water to Sisiak 3 must be restored

Letters, Normal

I would like to express my concern over the water stoppage to Sisiak 3 in Madang town for the past three weeks.
I believe it is due to vandalism of Waterboard pipes by marijuana and homebrew addicted youths in neighbouring ward of Sisiak 2 area.
My apology to most of the good citizens at Sisiak 2 but I am disgusted see people struggling to obtain safe drinking water at Sisiak 3.
Water is one of the essential components of a healthy and disease-free lifestyle.
The situation has resulted in people collecting water from streams and other sources that has a high possibility of contamination from fecal origin.
This is a public concern and it will have an impact in terms of environment, social, economical and general well-being of the people.
My biggest concern is the health of the community as there are too many water-borne diseases like cholera, typhoid, dysentery, amoebiasis, shigellosis, hepatitis, etc.
Since cholera has hit Sisiak 3 last year, there is a possibility of resurgence.
My advice to the people of Sisiak 3 is to boil water before they are to be used for drinking, cooking, washing dishes, etc.
As prevention is better than cure, I call on the appropriate authorities like Waterboard, police and Health Department to look into the matter and address it before we have another major outbreak of water-related diseases.
The police must conduct an investigation and if the youths of Sisiak 2 are responsible for vandalising public property, they must be arrested and dealt with according to the law.
