PRIME Minister James Marape is assuring the University of Papua New Guinea that the Government will continue to invest in it.
He told students at the 65th graduation at the Sir John Guise stadium yesterday that he would like to see its operation continuing.
Marape said the higher education loan programme (Help) had been a relief for many students and their families, the Government would continue to focus on tertiary and technical education.
This year, a total of 6,633 students were in attendance – a kina equivalent to K28,081,294.
Marape said relying on infrastructure-based universities and the technical colleges for residential-based learning was no longer sufficient on their own.
A higher education sector that embraced digital learning, capitalised on technological innovation, would withstand global challenges such as health pandemic and curb the increasing maintenance cost of colleges and universities, he said.
“Your Government through the Department of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology is embarking on a digital education approach to complement current approaches to teaching with number of courses being offered online.”
