PM: I have majority

PRIME Minister James Marape is confident he has the numbers in Parliament to defeat any motion of no confidence against him and his coalition government.
He claims to have more than 90 MPs supporting him, including the 30 in the Pangu Pati he leads, plus 42 from his major coalition parties such as the National Alliance Party (12), United Resources Party (10), United Labour Party (7), People’s Party (5), People’s Progress Party (4) and Our Development Party (4).
The other small parties in the government benches are Affiliated to Liberal Party (3) National Party (2), Social Democratic Party (2).
There are also six MPs who have their own parties, and eight who are currently not affiliated to any party, taking the total of MPs in the Government side to 93.
There are 18 MPs on the Opposition benches.
Marape said not many MPs wanted to see any “political instability” now as they looked forward to the next general election around July, 2022.
