THE Port Moresby Soccer Association ended the first round of its competition on Sunday following a two-week suspension due to election-related issues in the city.
Competition coordinator Peter Mathew said matches resumed over the weekend and went well despite a few forfeits where some teams failed to turn up.
He told The National that round two-matches would kick off on Saturday at the Telikom Football Park, Bisini, with the finals scheduled for late October and early November.
“We’ve now ended the first round of our games and will proceed to the second round in the coming weekend as we near the finals,” Mathew said.
“We resumed our games after two weekends off and everything went well except for a couple of forfeits. The crowd turnout was not bad turn, but we should pick up again in the coming weekend.”
The highlight of last weekend was the men’s premier fixture between Blue Kumuls and Keleiruna. Blue Kumuls won 5-2.
Following a 1-1 scoreline at the break, Blue Kumuls came back stronger in the second half with goals from Hansen Topio, Morris Fridae (two) and Ephraim Sala.
The first half was an even contest with midfielders directing play, but Blue Kumuls put away their chances after the break, thanks to Steven Inia and Sala.
