PNG’s scenic highlands
The National, Wednesday 10th April, 2013
I AM a Kiwi expatriate currently spending a lot of time driving around the highlands region including Goroka, Mt Hagen, Wabag, Porgera, Mendi, Moro, Kikori, Komo and Koroba.
I feel very privileged
to see such a beautiful, rugged and scenic country on a daily basis.
Recently while in Mendi, I found a kai bar at the new petrol station near the Mendi Airport.
It is so much like the truck stops back in New Zealand.
It is clean and provides awesome service, complimentary coffee and the most reasonably priced, well presented and tasty food I have had in PNG.
With more places like this springing up in the highlands, it will only be
a matter of time before I have to share this country’s beauty with tourists.
Yes, there are some issues that need to be addressed, but at least some people know what travellers need.
