PNG archery aiming for revival

PNG Archery National Federation president Sereugava Ugava says collaboration with High Performance Sports (HPS) PNG is the way forward to revive the sport.
Speaking after a session with HPS PNG, Ugava said an understanding between both parties was vital.
“Both sides need to know what the needs are and what each can provide,” Ugava said.
“Working together is the first step.
“We are proud that our national coach has done a proper chart with handouts so that Hannah (Singut) and her (HPS PNG) team can understand what we need from each other.”
Archery is not new to the country, having its beginnings in 2004 with three clubs – one in Port Moresby and two in Goroka.
Ugava said the last event PNG archers attended was the 2011 Pacific Games in Noumea before it became inactive until its reactivation in late 2016.
“A few of us got together to reactivate the code,” Ugava said.
“That includes having new faces and our new club.
“The recent activation also saw new executives being elected, with myself as president, Karai (Taukarai) as secretary, Raymond (Asigau) as treasurer and Kori Nendepa as vice-president.
“Our national coach is Signe Dalsgaard.
“We have only one club in Port Moresby, with plans to roll out to other provinces.
“We also have our grassroots programmes to roll out in NCD schools.”
