BOARD members of the country’s 2025 National Rugby League (NRL) bid were sworn in on Tuesday.
Appointed by the National Executive Council, the members are chairman Wapu Sonk (Kumul Petroleum Holdings Limited managing director), Stan Joyce, Ian Tarutia (Nasfund chief executive), Albert Veratau (Papua New Guinea Sports Foundation chief executive) and Stanley Hondina (PNG Rugby Football League chief executive).
The board was sworn in by deputy chief magistrate Samson Tatakali, and witnessed by PNGRFL chairman Sandis Tsaka.
Sonk assured that the board would work towards a successful bid for the country to field a team in the Australia’s premier rugby league competition.
“I have confidence in the board,” he said.
“We bring experiences in different sectors of rugby league, administration, and different skill sets that we will put to use for the people of PNG in making sure that we are the successful 18th team in the NRL when the licence becomes available in 2025.”
The board sat for their first meeting following the occasion.
