PNG Defence Force offers gymnasium to Sepik Pride

SEPIK Pride have been given a boost through the Papua New Guinea Defence Force which has offered the Moem Barracks gymnasium for them to use if their Digicel Cup bid is successful.
Pride bid manager Bradley Simon told The National yesterday that the army’s support would play a big part in their bid as it would tick off one of the requirements and cut costs.
“We have visited the Second Royal Pacific Island Regiment gymnasium at Moem barracks and the facility is good, it just needs a little maintenance and some more equipment,” he said.
“Big thanks to Lieutenant Colonel Steven Serum.
“He offered to support us with access to the facility. If we were to build our own gym then it would have been more expensive.
“But for now, we are going to use the 2RPIR gymnasium and it’s going to be our home for some time.
“We’ll do whatever maintenance that is needed plus we’ll bring in some more equipment.”
Simon said if the bid was successful, the Pride would head to Kokopo where they would train and be based there for eight weeks before they return to Wewak.
“The Rabaul Gurias have some good facilities there so we can be able to use them while we are there,” he said.
“This is to buy time while we take care of some of the maintenance on the gymnasium as well as other things that we need to do.”
