THE PNG Fashion and Design Week (PNGFDW) received a sponsorship of K10,000 from the Sesago Healthcare Ltd on Friday for its inaugural virtual runway.
PNGFDW founder and director Janet Sios, while acknowledging this financial support, said that due to the Covid-19 pandemic, PNGFDW took a creative approach with the fashion show arranged virtually in compliance with the Covid-19 national measures.
She said PNG Fashion and Design Week runs two main programmes annually, a capacity building programme and a training in the design fashion areas, financial skills and marketing and branding.
This comprehensive training was supported by the PNG-Australia partnership for the last three years and has been a success.
“We have trained more than 800 locals including 76 people living with disabilities in the last five years,” she said.
“The second programme is the fashion runways where our designers are given the opportunity to showcase their designs on the runway for greater recognition.”
To strengthen this partnership, PNGFDW also signed a memorandum of understanding with Sesago for a duration of one year.
